The Outlaw marks a new chapter for Flattley Guitar Pedals: the British brand’s first dual pedal that blends a clean boost and a tube-inspired FET overdrive. An analogue pedal entirely handmade in the UK, designed to offer a wide tonal range and total control over the signal, inside a box with an unmistakable style.
Flattley Guitar Pedals, a British company founded in 2016 by Paul Flattley, is now a consolidated presence in the European boutique scene. Its guitar and bass effects are appreciated for their completely handmade construction, attention to detail and high-end analog sound rendering. With The Outlaw, Flattley introduces the first “dual pedal” in its catalogue: a combination of two circuits already familiar to fans of the brand – the Ace Tone Booster and the Plexi Overdrive – now enclosed in a single compact and powerfully versatile unit.
Construction and aesthetic details
In Flattley tradition, The Outlaw is also hand-built in the UK using high-quality components and obsessive attention to every stage of production.
The enclosure is a 119 x 94 x 30 mm 1590BB, without a battery compartment and powered by a –9V DC power supply with negative center.
Aesthetically, The Outlaw immediately strikes: red anodized aluminium grips, LED light rings and two custom engraved foot toppers contribute to an elegant and aggressive look at the same time. The red finish with holographic inserts, chrome metal flake and silver paisley skulls motifs continues in a manner consistent with the aesthetic philosophy of the brand.
Dual architecture: two circuits, one soul
The Outlaw is obviously designed as a pedal with two independent sections, each equipped with its own dedicated footswitch and controls
- Boost section: offers a transparent clean boost equipped with an active tone stack, capable of shifting the balance between low and high frequencies. This way, the guitarist can use it as a bass boost, treble boost, or to adjust the tonal balance according to the context.
- Overdrive Section: Uses a FET circuit designed to reproduce the harmonic response of a 12AX7 tube, ranging from mellow, dynamic blues sounds to full-bodied rock distortions.
A mini switch also allows you to reverse the order of the two effects, offering two complementary approaches:
- Boost → Overdrive to push the FET circuit into saturation, resulting in more pronounced compression and distortion.
- Overdrive → Boost to amplify the volume and presence of solos, while maintaining definition and clarity.
Sound and versatility
The Outlaw was created to offer a wide range of sound in a compact format. The FET circuitry ensures dynamic and responsive behavior, similar to that of a tube amplifier, while the tone stack boost section adds refined control over signal EQ.
This makes the pedal suitable for both essential setups and complex pedalboards, capable of switching from a bright clean to a saturated crunch with naturalness and precision.
Each The Outlaw is entirely made, wired and finished by hand in the UK, according to the artisan philosophy that distinguishes Flattley Guitar Pedals. The use of quality materials, solid construction and refined aesthetics make it not only a versatile sound instrument, but also a stage and studio object destined to last over the years
