Reaper 10 AE – 10th Anniversary Edition (Dual Mode Distortion)

£259.00

In continuance of Flattley Guitar Pedals 10th anniversary year celebrations, we decided to revisit our first ever production pedal “Reaper” created ten years ago but with a bit of a very cool twist. The original Reaper product was an overdrive/distortion pedal with a rotary switch that could select variations in the components that were used in the feedback loop of an op-amp to give a range of tones.

The Reaper Dual Mode Distortion Anniversary Edition pedal takes a different approach by having both hard and soft clipping available around a similar op-amp core but voiced to be more aggressive than the original. The op-amp core is a bit of a nod to vintage rodent related pedals that we have never explored before.

As well as the two clipping modes there is also a boost mode that removes both methods of clipping to give a mode that can push an amplifier preamp into saturation. Warning, it can get very loud! The gain control has been chosen to be able to force the clean boost to clip as well when approaching maximum gain.

All of these modes are selected by a three-way toggle switch. This Anniversary Edition features vintage glass envelope germanium diodes for hard clipping, and asymmetric clipping using an LED and conventional silicon diodes to give a wider range of tones from this versatile pedal. Additional controls set the effect output volume, the overall gain and a tone control that can be used to tame the high end harmonics created by the various clipping modes.

The purple halo light ring installed diffuses the light when playing live, avoiding being blinded by the standard LEDs just as you are about to go into that all important solo thus giving a larger area to see where the pedal is located easily on the pedal board on darkened stages. The addition of the aluminium foot topper gives you more real estate for contact when switching the pedal on and off during quick changes when playing live.

Aditional Information

All Flattley “Platinum Range” pedals are hand processed in our Flattley paint shop. The bare aluminium enclosure is abraded prior to painting with the etch primer. The etch primer acts as a anti corrosive layer and allows the primer to bond to the enclosure ensuring a tough resilient paint finish.

Multiple coats of base coat primer are applied which are then lightly abraded to remove any blemishes or paint speckles prior to the application of the base colour. We apply several coats of base colour until an even coverage occurs and the base colour develops rich smooth depth. Metallic holographic chrome flake is then applied using a clear inter coat which adds that all important Flattley sparkle.

The Reaper is a deep lush purple colour with metallic flake embedded deep into the colour to give it maximum metallic depth and effect.

Once dried the lacquer process begins. Each “Flattley Platinum” pedal has a minimum of five coats of lacquer which are all wet sanded between coats. Once the lacquer has hardened, it is then hand polished using three different grades of polishing compounds and it then has a final polish to achieve a high gloss finish using a wool finishing pad. This process gives the smooth deep lustre finish that is inherent in all Flattley Guitar and Bass effects pedals.

At this point the Reaper graphics are then applied by UV direct printing process giving a very sharp clear image of the original hand drawn Reaper image by Phoebe Flattley.
