Kevin Hide

A late starter, Kevin did not pick up the bass guitar until he turned 18 years old.  Barring two acoustic guitar lessons in primary school, which he did not continue as, in his words, “the thin strings hurt my fingers”, the bass has always been the only instrument he really wanted to play.  He taught himself how to play quickly, taking influences from a broad range of players to develop his own style.

Having spent many years honing his craft at home and being involved in numerous small projects off stage, over the years his interests turned to metal and a desire to perform and in 2016 co-founded the power metal band ‘Barbikan’.  Light-hearted tales of dragons, witches and werewolves entertained the local scenes in Birmingham and Coventry, being described as “Amazingly cheesy power metal that made you want to politely duel your friendly neighbourhood wizard” by the Moshville Times.  They enjoyed moderate success, releasing a number of demos and reaching the Finals and Semi Finals of ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ in consecutive years.

In 2017, Kevin pursued his ambition of playing more technical music and jumped on board with ‘My Soliloquy’ as a touring bassist for a brief time, before joining progressive metallers ‘Cenfora’ in 2018.  Having been a fan of the band since he shared the stage with them at the O2 Academy in 2017, when the opportunity arose to join Cenfora, he jumped at the chance to bring his diverse influences to the table.  With this band, he made his first appearance on an album with their debut ‘The Progening’, released in July 2018 at a packed out launch show in Birmingham.

Later in 2018, Kevin co-founded the function band ‘Kingmakers’ for a change in pace, signing up to an agent to perform classic rock and pop numbers at various events across the UK.  In 2019, he joined new Metalcore/Djent band ‘Awaken Eternity’ and will be releasing music and hitting the stage with them later in the year.

Being in a number of different bands covering a variety of genres gives Kevin an excuse (at a stretch!) to own a variety of bass gear.  Being a self confessed gear head, Kevin has become known on his Instagram feed for being an avid collector of boutique bass equipment.  His head was first turned by Flattley Effects in 2018 at the Bass Guitar Show in London, with the fancy hand built finishes catching his eye and the performance of the pedals keeping his attention.  He shortly afterwards commissioned a Bass Nirvana Analog Delay in a custom finish and has a custom Bass Poison Ivy on the way.  He has enjoyed getting to know Paul and his team and looks forward to developing their relationship with further commissions in the future (all eyes on the Bass Sub Octave!).
