The Flattley DG Fuzz V2 pedal was featured in Guitarist Magazine Issue 508, February 2024 and further details on this amazing review can be found on our “News” section under the “Home” and “About” pages. The Flattley DG Fuzz pedal was also given the “Guitarist Choice” award which we are really proud of and is a testament to the DG Fuzz pedal’s tonal flexibility and quality.
The “DG Fuzz ” is effectively a “dual pedal” consisting of a simplified version of our “The Ace” tone booster pedal coupled with a 1960s style fuzz and a typical period tone stack. The inclusion of a buffer means the pedal can be placed anywhere in a chain of pedals without changing the behaviour of the fuzz circuitry.
There are 4 controls in addition to the bypass switch that allows the effect to be switched in and out of circuit. A true bypass scheme is used, the effect is active when the halo ring is illuminated.
Some typical settings…
Fat fuzz: Grunt clockwise, Tone anti-clockwise, Fuzz and Volume to taste.
60s fuzz: Grunt midway, Tone midway, Fuzz and Volume to taste
Thin scratchy fuzz: Grunt minimum, Fuzz midway, Tone and Volume to taste.
The blue halo light ring installed diffuses the light when playing live, avoiding being blinded by the standard LEDs just as you are about to go into that all important solo thus giving a larger area to see where the pedal is located easily on the pedal board on darkened stages. The addition of the large aluminium foot topper gives you more real estate for contact when switching the pedal on and off during quick changes when playing live.
All Flattley “Platinum Range” pedals are hand processed in our Flattley paint shop. The bare aluminium enclosure is abraded prior to painting with the etch primer. The etch primer acts as a anti corrosive layer and allows the primer to bond to the enclosure ensuring a tough resilient paint finish.
Multiple coats of base coat primer are applied which are then lightly abraded to remove any blemishes or paint speckles prior to the application of the base colour. We apply several coats of base colour until an even coverage occurs and the base colour develops rich smooth depth. Metallic holographic chrome flake is then applied using a clear inter coat which adds that all important Flattley sparkle.
The pedal enclosure is now ready to be hydro dipped in its Flattley graphics. This is the process whereby the graphics are applied using water activated film, the residual PVA film is then washed off and the enclosure is then allowed to dry naturally.
Once dried the lacquer process begins. Each “Flattley Platinum” pedal has a minimum of three coats of lacquer which are all wet sanded between coats. Once the lacquer has hardened, it is then hand polished using three different grades of polishing compounds and it then has a final polish to achieve a high gloss finish using a wool finishing pad. This process gives the smooth deep lustre finish that is inherent in all Flattley Guitar and Bass effects pedals.

Volume: Adjusts the final volume of the effect. It can be used to adjust the balance between bypass and effected signal or to boost the volume to make lead breaks really punch through.
Fuzz: Controls the amount of gain/distortion created by the fuzz part of the circuit. Maximum fuzz is control clockwise but there are a number of sweet spots to be found with fuzz midway and varying the grunt control.
Tone: Classic 60s fuzz tone, fully anti-clockwise allows all frequencies through, turning control clockwise starts to remove the bass frequencies to achieve a very bright tone
Grunt: Part of the internal buffer, this control allows the input signal frequency response to be varied before it is distorted by the fuzz section of the pedal. Maximum grunt boosts the bass of the input giving the fuzz more to work with, minimum grunt thins out the signal for a more typical 60s fizzy distortion.

One word. AMAZING.
I’ve always steered clear of Fuzz because I find it too undefined. Absolutely not the case with this. Yes you can create crazy saturated tones but you’re also able to tweak and refine your sound which is an absolute treasure to have at your disposal. If you want you can even get some really nice thick drive tones from this which is a good sign of a quality made product that has been well engineered. This is a Swiss Army knife for fuzz.

I bought this Pedal at the guitar summit Thein Germany. It actually reminds me of David Gilmour’s sounds or big muff sounds. The tone is bright and smooth, with rich harmonics and long sustain. Into my ear It needs a certain basic volume – more than bedroom – to sound good. It is more versatile than a fuzz with just one tone control thanks to the dual tone control. I use it with singlecoils and humbuckers both. The sound cleans up well if the volume is turned down. Finally I especially like the design and the led.

This is a great-sounding fuzz, with a smooth sound (which I love). As another reviewer has noted, it responds well to changes in guitar volume; it also stacks well with pedals earlier in the signal chain. For example, adding compression before it increases the amount of fuzz from the unit, making this a very versatile pedal that covers a lot of bases. Recommended.
