JK Fuzz (Silicon Fuzz)

The “JK Fuzz” is effectively based around a classic 1960s dual transistor fuzz but with improvements to get around the problems the originals had. To this end there is now an input buffer with additional pre-emphasis and an additional post fuzz tone control. The inclusion of a buffer means the pedal can be placed anywhere in a chain of pedals without changing the behaviour of the fuzz circuitry (unlike the original).

There are 4 controls in addition to the bypass switch that allows the effect to be switched in and out of circuit. A true bypass scheme is used, the effect is active when the halo ring is illuminated.

Some typical settings…

Fat fuzz: PreDrive clockwise, Bright anti-clockwise, Fuzz and Volume to taste.

60s fuzz: PreDrive midway, Bright midway, Fuzz and Volume to taste.

Controls:

Volume: Adjusts the final volume of the effect. It can be used to adjust the balance between bypass and effected signal or to boost the volume to make lead breaks really punch through.

Fuzz: Controls the amount of gain/distortion created by the fuzz part of the circuit. Maximum fuzz is control clockwise but there are a number of sweet spots to be found with fuzz midway and varying the predrive control.

Bright: Classic 60s fuzz tone, fully anti-clockwise allows all frequencies through, turning control clockwise starts to remove the bass frequencies to achieve a very bright tone. A simple passive post distortion tone control, similar to a guitar tone pot, allows the treble of the fuzz circuit to be tamed.

PreDrive: Part of the internal buffer, this control allows the input signal frequency response to be varied before it is distorted by the fuzz section of the pedal. Maximum predrive boosts the bass of the input giving the fuzz more to work with, minimum predrive thins out the signal for a more typical 60s fizzy distortion.

The red halo light ring installed diffuses the light when playing live, avoiding being blinded by the standard LEDs just as you are about to go into that all important solo thus giving a larger area to see where the pedal is located easily on the pedal board on darkened stages. The addition of the large aluminium foot topper gives you more real estate for contact when switching the pedal on and off during quick changes when playing live.
